Easy Configuration of IP Routing

By | October 27, 2016

If you are interested in building your own private wireless network, you have to know more about IP routing and its types. If you know how to configure these routing types you will be able to handle different processes in the router which is connected to the network.

We have three types of IP routing and they are:

Static routing

This type of routing is considered to be the most advanced one. If you have a Linksys router, you have to know that it can help you manage its routing capabilities. This not something you have to do every day, because in that case the router you use will find it hard to automatically router the website addresses.

If you want to perform manual routing, you have to know all the main parts of it.

We have the option to manage the routing tables either manually or dynamically. If we sue these tables for static network units, they won’t change automatically. If a change is needed the administrator will have to do this manually. On the other hand, as the name says, in dynamic routing, the routing tables are being taken care of automaticallywith the help of routing protocols. Dynamic routing tables let other units pay attention to the network and react if something bad happens.

What are the Advantages of Static routing?

There are numerous advantages connected to this type of routing and here are a few of them.

  1. They can be easily implemented.
  2. It is probably the safest way, mainly because none of the information being shared is shared with other routers.
  3. It doesn’t require much memory and processing power

Dynamic or Adaptive routing

This type of routing represents a special networking technique designed to provide optimal data routing for all the users in the network.

What are the Advantages of Dynamic routing?

The operations of this type of routing are quite simple and clear to all network users. Here are its benefits.

  1. The size of the network doesn’t affect the simplicity of its configuration
  2. This type of routing is considered to be very sensitive
  3. It requires more bandwidth than the type previously described

Default routing

This type of routing is mainly used in so called stub networks. These networks are networks that have just one input interface. All the data which goes through this type of network is required to cross just one exit point.

It is not that difficult to configure a single default route in the network to fit all possible routes.

What are the Advantages of Default routing?

We are going to mention just a few of the benefits of default routing and here they are:

  • When there is no specific router given for a specific address it uses a specific packet forwarding rule
  • Generally, we can say that Default routing is a special type of static routing designed for the data packets to be securely transmitted.

Your router practically learns from adjacent routers or with the help of the network admin.According to the things he learns the router creates a routing table which is there to help find remote networks. If the router has connected to the network at one occasion, the next time it will connect automatically. If the router didn’t connect to the network before it will have to learn how to do it. Two possible ways are either by static routing or with the help of dynamic routing.

Since we talk about routers, we have to mention the default router IP 192.168.0.1 which can greatly help in managing the home network and securing the entire system.
