Mobile app manager: which metrics to track?

By | February 8, 2014

Mobile app metrics are actually metrics you get from your own app. They are metrics you get from the people who use your app. It is up to you to add in analytic information so that when people are using your a pp then you can track various metrics on it. Here are a few metrics that it is going to be a good idea to track.

Lifetime value

This one gets the first position on this little list, and not because it is some vitally important feature, but mostly because all the other lists you read on this subject will put “lifetime value” nestled around the bottom of the page somewhere.

Lifetime value is something that is underrated as a metric to track, mainly because if you still have an incentive to track then they still have a value, which affect lifetime value as you can understand.

But, you can look at it from a more predictive point of view. You can think of it as an element you may plan. You may plan to have a lifetime value, which is really going to put a different face on the creation of your mobile app. It goes from a cheap marketing ploy to something you want to last the ages.

Oddly enough, once you start thinking about the lifetime value of your app, you actually start thinking in ways that may help increase the value of your app in total so that it may last a longer time. This is a very healthy attitude to have.

Crash reports

This is a notion that moves miles away from the lifetime value and asks how many times your app has crashed. Any crashing at all is a very bad thing. We are in an age where people in their thirties and beyond are happy their computing goods no longer crash. They are part of the generations that remember losing hours of work because something damn well crashed on you and you had to restart it.

Those days of things crashing and grown adults throwing tantrums because of it are supposed to be in the past. This is why crash reports are important. More importantly, you are supposed to be monitoring crash reports in order to confirm that you have had no crashes (ever).

Conversion rates

This may be a very big deal for you. In fact, if conversions were the motivation for creating your app then conversions are vitally important. If you were not getting conversions then it would be like you inventing a hot dog cooking machine that people simply liked to watch instead of buy from.

The conversion rates should be monitored because you do need to know if your app is working and bringing in enough conversions. If it is not then it may be time for a bigger marketing push or for your app to be changed so that more people convert and either buy or go to your website.

Usage

This comes in more than one form. One of the forms is how many people actually download your app. It is possible for people to download and use the app without you being able to monitor. For example, what if that person installed your app and then never went online again–for all you know that person could still use your app every day.

There is also the form that included general usage. You may have inserted metric data with helps you see when the app is being used and how often it is being used. This may help you in a wide number of ways, especially if the progress of your online eCommerce business is somehow linked to the fate of your app.

User accounts

You can also monitor how many user accounts are set up via an app that has only been downloaded and installed once. Such a thing may actually indicate a certain method for using your app if one person is creating numerous accounts to use him or herself. Or, it may show that more than one person uses a certain device, which may show that your app is quite a lot more popular that it first appears.

Updates

How often the app is updated may also be telling. You may send updates all the time and most of your users may update fairly quickly. This may indicate that a lot of your users care about their app and care about the service it gives them. It may also mean that they are very engaged with what the app has to do for them and they may have a lot of customer loyally because of it.
